The low conductivity and limited buffering capacity of pure water with low ionic strength can cause the pH electrode to drift, producing non-reproducible and inaccurate results. Common problems are: large drift, low flow sensitivity, poor temperature compensation. Electrical noise and interference can compound the problem. Some properties of pure water have an adverse effect on the reliable measurement of pH. For many years, it was believed that these properties could not be successfully overcome to achieve the desired measurement accuracy and reliability. Properties most affected by pure water properties include:
Reference Electrode Stability
glass electrode reaction
electrical interference
Special T.C. Requirements
